Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit
  • Ability to meet National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) registry requirements as Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Pulmonary Function Therapist (CPFT)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
  • 2+ years of recent experience in a pulmonary function lab setting
  • Proficiency with computers needed to operate advanced equipment

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program (or equivalent education, training or experience)
  • Certificate in CPR. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients and families with pulmonary function issues
  • Follows patients referred to pulmonary program with visits, phone calls and letters as needed
  • Performs pulmonary function tests to be used in diagnosis of care (spirometry, flow volume, walk tests, oximetry pulse studies, etc.). Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions during a test or procedure
  • Teaches correct use of pulmonary equipment to patients
  • Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy
  • Works closely with physicians, nurses and other clinicians (NPs, Pas, RNs) to oversee patient progress and care
  • Informs supervisor of situations needing improvement, intervention or that affect the efficiency of the Pulmonary Function Program
  • Acts as resource person for staff, providing in-service education and consultation
  • Able to use all electronic tools and applications relevant to the performance of the duties of the position, including but not limited to phone, keyboard, computer and computer applications
  • Performs other duties as assigned
