The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will demonstrate knowledge in various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each. They will conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation, administer therapeutic procedures understanding their purpose, benefits, and possible effects, and perform diagnostic procedures as outlined in policy. This role involves initiating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilators, being aware of critical care duties and the effects of such therapy. The RRT will independently evaluate current therapies using appropriate judgment and protocols, making proper recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs. They will document therapy and results as required by hospital, department, and regulatory agencies, and communicate information to appropriate members of the healthcare team. The RRT will initiate, conduct, and modify respiratory care techniques in an emergency setting, perform and evaluate blood sampling analysis with a thorough understanding of the values and treatment of abnormal results. This position requires working independently in all patient care areas and assisting co-workers with patient care whenever possible. Proficiency in electronic medical records and its interface with the Respiratory Care Department is essential, along with adherence to departmental safety guidelines and completion of all regulatory requirements and annual proficiency evaluations.
