About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA approved Respiratory Care Program
  • RCP – Respiratory Care Practitioner
  • RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist
  • BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support required prior to independent patient care

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience in Med/Surg or Critical Care
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support (required within 90 days)
  • NRP – Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)
  • NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (required within 90 days)

Responsibilities

  • Obtaining/verifying physician order for therapy and validate for appropriateness
  • Reviewing available medical records and obtaining pertinent medical history from patient or family
  • Evaluating each patient using age and diagnosing appropriate assessment tests and measurement
  • Using therapeutic treatment techniques appropriate to patient age and desire for treatment
  • Determining patient response to treatment and evaluating progress (reassessment)
  • Educating patient and family through instruction, demonstration, or appropriate handouts in treatment plan, safety issues, and home programs/self-management
  • Maintaining bedside and ventilator alarms in audible position
  • Communicating with physicians and other healthcare personnel as appropriate regarding patient care issues
  • Administering medication in a safe/correct manner, adhering to medication administration guidelines
  • Documenting aspects of each treatment session in accordance with departmental, Joint Commission, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines
  • Documenting assessments of education needs, education provided, and patient understanding of education provided in accordance with departmental, JCAHO, Medicare, and other applicable regulatory guidelines
