The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) will demonstrate knowledge in various modes and methods of oxygen delivery and the equipment needed for each. They will conduct prescribed therapeutic procedures to achieve adequate oxygenation, administer therapeutic procedures understanding the purpose, benefits, and possible effects. The RRT will perform diagnostic procedures, initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilators and non-invasive ventilators, and be aware of critical care duties and their effects. They will independently evaluate current therapies, make recommendations concerning plans of care and patient education needs, and document therapy and results as required. Communication with the healthcare team is essential, as is initiating, conducting, and modifying respiratory care techniques in emergency settings. The RRT will perform and evaluate blood sampling analysis, work independently in all patient care areas, and assist co-workers. Proficiency in electronic medical records and adherence to departmental safety guidelines and regulatory requirements are expected. This role also includes completing annual proficiency evaluations of respiratory care equipment and procedures.
