About The Position

The primary purpose of your job is to provide respiratory care to patients of all ages in accordance with current applicable Federal, State, and local standards guidelines, and regulations and established policies and procedures as may be directed by the Administrator, to assure that the highest degree of quality care and safety can be maintained. This role involves emergency room and outpatient therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, atrial puncture with pH blood gas analysis, and various oxygen and therapeutic treatments. The position also includes initiating and monitoring mechanical ventilation, endotracheal suctioning, airway management, and stabilizing airways for patient transport. Additional duties include performing electrocardiograms, pulmonary function studies, multidisciplinary rounds, and end tidal CO2 monitoring. The therapist will attend high-risk deliveries and scheduled C-sections, educate patients, families, and staff, and cooperate with other clinical services. Participation in in-service education programs and staying current with healthcare changes are also key aspects of the role. The position requires documentation in the EPIC EMR system, knowledge of safety standards, monitoring equipment condition, following infection control procedures, recommending equipment needs, maintaining a clean and safe therapy area, and involving patients and families in treatment planning.

Requirements

  • Other Certificate/Diploma Respiratory Therapy required.
  • Registered from the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc.
  • Currently Licensed in Massachusetts.
  • Maintains license as necessary.
  • Three years’ practical experience in cardio-pulmonary capacity in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other related medical facility.
  • 3-5 years required.
  • Degree from an A.M.A and BBRC approved school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Practical knowledge of safety standards for patient care and equipment.
  • Follows infection control procedures and complies with Employee Health policies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide respiratory care to patients of all ages.
  • Perform emergency room and outpatient therapy.
  • Conduct cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Perform atrial puncture and pH blood gas analysis.
  • Administer oxygen therapy with prescribed appliances.
  • Perform therapeutic treatments including BiPap, aerosol nebulization, chest physiotherapy, postural drainage, heated high humidity, and incentive spirometry.
  • Initiate and monitor mechanical ventilation, long term, and transport.
  • Perform endotracheal suctioning.
  • Manage airways.
  • Stabilize airway, monitor, and support ventilation prior to patient transport.
  • Perform electrocardiograms.
  • Conduct pulmonary function studies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Perform end tidal CO2 monitoring.
  • Attend high risk deliveries and scheduled C-Sections.
  • Educate patients, families, and professional staff.
  • Perform other prescribed modalities to ensure proper patient care and department standards and operation.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other clinical services.
  • Participate in in-service education programs for facility and community benefit.
  • Attend workshops, seminars, etc. and stay current with changes in the health care as well as maintain professional status.
  • Document using the EPIC EMR system.
  • Apply practical knowledge of safety standards for patient care and equipment.
  • Monitor the condition of equipment.
  • Follow infection control procedures and comply with Employee Health policies.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs for the department to the manager.
  • Assure the therapy area is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Involve patient and family in planning treatment and identify specific goals and outcomes for patient.
  • Allow patient to participate and schedule their treatments.
  • Review complaints and grievances made by patients, family, or visitors.
