About The Position

The Respiratory Therapist RRT provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients designed to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control deficiencies or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within the prescription of the physician. This position acts as a resource to the CRT staff. The RRT may be responsible for special clinical projects or assignments as designated by leadership according to the needs of the department. Within Homecare operations, The RRT will have responsibility for patient care in our Homecare facilities, during set ups in our Hospital facilities, and inside the patient’s homes. As a Respiratory Therapist RRT - Homecare, you will provide advanced respiratory care services across a variety of settings, including Homecare facilities, hospital discharges and setups, physician-directed patient care, and in patients' homes. This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients and families while helping them successfully manage respiratory conditions in the comfort of their homes. The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for assessing, treating, monitoring, and educating patients with cardiopulmonary conditions while serving as a clinical resource for respiratory caregivers and interdisciplinary teams. This position combines independent clinical decision-making, patient advocacy, equipment management, and exceptional customer service to ensure safe, effective respiratory care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a NBRC approved Respiratory Therapist program. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Current State License as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
  • Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers.
  • Specific certifications as required (i.e. PALS, ACLS, NRP).
  • Experience working in a customer service or home healthcare requiring exceptional customer service
  • Current driver’s license insured and reliable vehicle, and acceptable driving record.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to work independently and be self-motivated
  • Strong communication skills.

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
  • Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.).
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

Responsibilities

  • Perform respiratory care assessments, treatments, and interventions in accordance with physician orders, departmental protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate respiratory status through physical assessment, review of medical history, diagnostic data, and patient response to therapy.
  • Develop, implement, and adjust patient care plans based on clinical outcomes and changing patient needs.
  • Independently perform advanced respiratory procedures, assessments, and interventions within scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress and communicate findings to physicians, nursing staff, patients, families, and care team members.
  • Participate in clinical initiatives, quality improvement activities, and specialty care programs.
  • Conduct respiratory equipment setup, troubleshooting, maintenance, and education in hospitals, Homecare locations, and patient homes.
  • Ensure safe and effective use of oxygen therapy, PAP therapy, ventilators, aerosol medications, and other respiratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with physician offices to coordinate orders, documentation, authorizations, and continuity of care.
  • Recommend appropriate respiratory technologies to maximize patient safety, comfort, and clinical outcomes.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans for patients and caregivers.
  • Teach proper use, maintenance, and safety considerations for respiratory equipment.
  • Provide disease-specific education to support long-term respiratory health and successful home management.
  • Serve as a clinical mentor and resource for Certified Respiratory Therapists (CRTs) and other caregivers.
  • Support implementation of department protocols, procedures, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects, program development, and process improvement activities.
  • Handle operational concerns and escalate issues appropriately to leadership.
