About The Position

Participating in the therapeutic team approach to providing optimum care for patients requiring the services of the Cancer Center, the Lead Registered Radiation Therapist delivers the daily dose of radiation to patients, records the daily dose of radiation as prescribed by the radiation oncologist, and ensures accurate simulation under the direction of the radiation oncologist. He/She is attentive to the physical and psychological needs of those patients under treatment and maintains values congruent with the profession’s code of ethics and scope of practice, adhering to national, institutional and departmental standards and policies and procedures regarding treatment delivery and patient care.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an AMA CAHEA accredited program of Radiation Therapy Technology.
  • Must be currently registered, or eligible for registration, as a Radiation Therapist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • If registered, must be currently licensed as a Medical Radiation Technologist by the Mississippi State Department of Health.
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered as a Radiologic Technologist (RT(R)) by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) preferred.
  • Experience with Varian Trilogy with Rapid Arc and Gating, high dose radiation (HDR) and G.E-CT Simulator is preferred.
