About The Position

Nova Scotia Health is seeking experienced Registered Psychiatric Nurses (RPNs) to join their growing Mental Health and Addictions team. This role involves providing patient-centred care in a collaborative and evolving program across diverse clinical environments in Nova Scotia. The RPN will be responsible for assessment, planning, treatment, intervention, and crisis management for clients. Key duties include participating in quality initiatives, engaging in collaborative person-centred care, and utilizing information technology to support best practices. The role requires the application of psychiatric nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making, as well as providing teaching, counseling, and advocacy for patients and their families. Care is to be delivered from a trauma-informed lens, adhering to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics set by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing, and within the policies and procedures of Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Psychiatric Nursing required.
  • Eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) required.
  • Two (2) years recent clinical experience specific to Mental Health & Addictions.
  • BLS-C (HCP) Certification required.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCVI) required.
  • Suicide Risk Assessment and Intervention Certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in working with high risk clients.
  • Ability to work effectively in multiple software applications.
