About The Position

The Village at University Gates has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Practical Nurse to join their team on Retirement. This is a Temporary Full-Time position with 78.25 hours biweekly, located at 250 Laurelwood Dr. Waterloo, On, N2J 0E2. The compensation is $27.49/hr, with shift details from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. The approximate start date is the beginning of July for approximately 12 months. This role is for information purposes only, the assignment of this posting will be Williamsburg.

Requirements

  • Maintain current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Existing Heart Save Level of CPR.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, properly plan for, and allocate the right amount of time and effort to complete tasks.
  • Ability to remain calm and manage stress appropriately.
  • Ability to deliver safe administration of medication and treatments with a focus on accuracy, quality and meeting our residents’ quality of life requests.
  • Ability to follow plans of care (or service plans) in accordance with the standards of the College of Nurses.
  • Ability to identify and report any changes in the resident’s well-being to the Charge Nurse or Village leadership team.
  • Understanding of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, and regulations applicable to the Long-Term Care sector, including the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021, Ontario Retirement Communities Association, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA) of Ontario.
  • Ability to support and embrace our resident-centred social culture and deliver the highest quality of personal care to our residents.
  • Ability to work as a key member of our Village and Neighbourhood multidisciplinary team to understand residents’ individual needs, and advocate for residents to actively participate in decisions about their care, support new resident move-ins, facilitate transfers to hospital, or any changes in resident medical needs.
  • Ability to collaborate with the Neighbourhood Physician during weekly rounds and update care plans and directions accordingly.
  • Proficient communication and computer skills in order to update care plans in the current system.
  • Understanding of the physical, mental, and emotional demands of the RPN role.

Nice To Haves

  • MDS credentials.
  • Experience working with people living with Dementia.
  • Knowledge of the palliative assessments scale.
  • Comfortable supporting residents and their families during end-of-life care.
  • Knowledge of relevant policies, procedures, legislation, regulations and best practices applicable to the retirement and long-term care sector (e.g. RAI processes and CIHI, supplies, equipment ordering, etc.)
