About The Position

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a valued member of the interdisciplinary team within the department and organization. They are responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality patient care by assessing and identifying patient needs, implementing and monitoring the patients’ medical plan, and following HPHA policies and procedures. Additionally, the Registered Nurse must follow nursing processes within the professions and licensures scope of practice. They will provide education, advice and support to patients and family members.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma from a recognized and accredited College/University required
  • Current Certificate of Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Current Basic Life Support certificate required
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia Interpretation Course
  • Completion of a 12 Lead ECG Interpretation Course
  • Completion of a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia Interpretation Course
  • Completion of a 12 Lead ECG Interpretation Course
  • Completion of IV Therapy course or equivalent
  • Completion of IV Start course or equivalent
  • Insertion of Nasogastric (NG) tubes
  • Flushing of PRN adaptors
  • Subcutaneous portal insertion and drug administration
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a mixed inpatient caseload including acute care, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, and palliative
  • Demonstrated ability to work on an interdisciplinary team including community partners
  • Well developed verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing continuing education
  • Working knowledge of Meditech Information System and personal computer applications
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position
  • Ability to plan and organize with good critical thinking, interpersonal, communication, facilitation and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and function both independently and interdependently with the interprofessional care team
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development/ continuing education and participation in quality assurance activities
  • Strong interest in interprofessional practice and patient centered care

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate preferred
  • Education related to geriatric care preferred (ex. Gentle Persuasive Approaches)
  • Recent clinical experience (minimum two years) in Emergency/Critical Care Nursing preferred
  • Advance Paediatric Life Support (APLS) or Paediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
  • Knowledge of the 5 level Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) process
  • Paediatric and adult assessment, including Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Emergency Nursing Certificate (ENC)
  • Emergency Trauma Life Support (ETLS)
  • Trauma Management
