(PERMANENT CASUAL) REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE - COMPLEX GENERAL PSYCHIATRY C (CGPC)
About The Position
Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses. The role involves using a recovery-focused model of care, built upon compassion, inspiration, and hope, and requires active participation as a member of the interprofessional team. The assignment is to work in the Complex General Psychiatry C Unit, which provides short-term crisis intervention, stabilization, and treatment. RPNs must be able to work in any area of the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences as patient needs dictate, including alternate work on the general unit and in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
Requirements
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing.
- Current CPR Health Care Provider (HCP).
- Demonstrated knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing, relevant policies, and legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, PHIPA).
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated competence within the full scope of practice of a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Demonstrated working knowledge/experience with computers.
- Proven excellent interpersonal skills and effective oral/written communication skills.
- Must be available to work shifts.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and critical thinking abilities.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position.
- Proven good attendance record with the capability of maintaining this standard.
Nice To Haves
- Meditech experience preferred.
- Recent psychiatric nursing experience an asset.
- Highly encouraged to complete the RPN Mental Health certification within five years of hire date.
- Proficiency in a second language.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses using a recovery-focused model of care.
- Act as an active and equal member of the interprofessional team.
- Provide short-term crisis intervention, stabilization, and treatment within the Complex General Psychiatry C Unit.
- Work in any area of the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences as patient needs dictate.
- Alternate working on the general unit and in the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
- Implement and model the Recovery philosophy in all aspects of care as a Recovery Champion.
- Provide assessment, care, medications, interventions, and documentation of care needs within the full scope of practice of a Registered Practical Nurse.
- Perform the physical demands of the position.
- Work with clients of diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds.
