Registered Practical Nurse -M Cardiology (Temporary Full Time)
About The Position
Trillium Health Partners (THP) is one of Canada’s largest community-based teaching hospitals, serving the growing and diverse populations of Mississauga, West Toronto, and surrounding communities. The 2C Cardiology unit is a 50-bed inpatient, acute care unit that supports a wide variety of complex cardiac patients, working closely with the Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Short Stay, and Coronary Care Unit. The unit primarily focuses on medical management and minimally invasive procedures, while also supporting off-service patients with telemetry needs. The team consists of skilled, interdisciplinary professionals dedicated to providing the best possible patient care.
Requirements
- Diploma graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing or equivalent.
- Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO.
- Current BCLS.
- Minimum of 1-year acute care medicine/cardiac experience required.
- A physical assessment course required.
- Demonstrates knowledge, experience and the ability to care for patients with the following: initiation and maintenance of IV therapy, administration of medication above the drip chamber, blood and blood product administration, blood glucose monitoring, nasogastric tubes, wound management skills, routine and additional infection control precautions, normal and abnormal lab values.
- Demonstrates excellence in communication skills and interprofessional team work.
- Demonstrates a strong ability to facilitate patient and family-centred care and establish therapeutic relationships.
- Evidence of on-going professional development.
- A positive work and attendance record is essential.
Nice To Haves
- Certificate RPN with added course in medication administration, phlebotomy and health assessment.
- Successfully completed the Coronary Care 1 course or committed to completing the course within the next six months.
- Telemetry experience preferred.
- Recent experience with inpatient cardiology population preferred.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) completion preferred.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge with EPIC and computer skills preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for complex cardiac patients.
