About The Position

The University Health Network (UHN) is seeking highly motivated professionals to fill the key role of a Registered Nurse in their Spine/Neurosurgery Department. This is a permanent full-time position at the Toronto Western Hospital, specifically within the 5A Spinal/Neurosurgery unit. The unit is a specialized 28-bed spine unit, part of the Krembil Brain Institute (KBI), and is one of a few in the country. Patients on this unit undergo neurosurgical and orthopedic spine procedures, and also receive care for emergent infectious, oncological, and traumatic processes. Common diagnoses include spinal stenosis, herniated discs, spinal cord injuries, spinal tumors and abscesses, neurological disorders, and chronic pain disorders. UHN is Canada's #1 hospital and a leading research hospital, affiliated with the University of Toronto, with a vision to build 'A Healthier World'. They hire and train newly graduated nurses.

Requirements

  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required
  • Flexible and able to work effectively and efficiently within a interdisciplinary patient care team
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills

  • Performing reflective practice, analyzing and evaluating nursing knowledge and modifying practice accordingly to improve the quality of nursing and patient care.
