About The Position

Humber River Health is seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join their Haemodialysis Unit within the Nephrology Program. As a fully digital hospital since 2015, Humber River Health focuses on using technology and clinical expertise to improve patient care and reduce inefficiencies. This role involves participating in a chronic disease prevention and management approach, empowering patients in their care, integrating care throughout the kidney journey, and improving access to kidney care. The position is temporary full-time until September 2027.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized Registered Practical Nursing two year diploma program
  • Current RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS certification
  • Minimum one to two years acute care experience is required.
  • Demonstrate competency in a variety of skills including (but not limited to), intramuscular injections, intravenous therapy initiation and discontinuation, blood transfusion, wound care dressing, medication administration, etc.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments in a reasonable length of time
  • Demonstrated sound judgment, good observation and patient assessment skills, tact and empathy
  • Demonstrated ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations
  • Proven ability to perform a preceptorship role
  • Physically capable of performing the essential duties of the position
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Humber's comprehensive safety programs and practices, including staff patient, and environmental safety, and participation in regular in-service education in this area
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one to two years Hemodialysis experience is preferred.
  • Nephrology courses preferred or commitment to complete within an agreed period of time.
  • Knowledge of a second language as asset
  • Basic computer skills and Meditech experience is an asset
  • An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • All aspects of care for patients receiving hemodialysis with a primary nursing focus
  • Providing education and follow-up to all hemodialysis patients
  • Must participate in quality assurance activities
  • All other RPN responsibilities set out by the department
