Requirements

  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Able to function to the full scope of practice as per CNO.
  • Current CPR certificates required.
  • Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking and comprehension).
  • Recent experience within two years of working in acute medicine and/or surgery.
  • Flexibility, willingness and ability to float to acute medical, palliative, CCC and surgical units as required on a daily basis.
  • Ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and has demonstrated teamwork abilities.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Understanding of the issues related to the various specialties in medical/surgical nursing as they apply to patients, families and the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education in acute care medicine/surgery.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to care for complex medical patients with stable, predictable outcomes.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality and work record.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care and education within scope of practice in acute medical, CCC, palliative, and surgical patient care areas.
  • Float to units as determined by daily staffing needs.
  • May be reassigned to different units during a shift.
  • May be required to work temporary unit placements or project work assignments for medical or surgical units.
  • Travel between and work at all Osler sites.
