About The Position

The Sleep Center Polysomnography Technician at Riverside Healthcare is responsible for conducting and interpreting polysomnographic studies to diagnose sleep disorders. This role involves operating specialized equipment, performing detailed sleep studies, and providing high-quality patient care. The technician will work closely with sleep physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnostic results and effective patient management.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Certification as a Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) or equivalent is required.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
  • Strong technical skills and proficiency in operating polysomnographic equipment.
  • Excellent patient care skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills for data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with AASM guidelines and standards for sleep studies.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in performing polysomnographic studies or working in a sleep center is preferred.
  • Experience with a variety of polysomnographic equipment and software.
  • An Associates degree in Polysomnography or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Sleep Studies: Perform and manage polysomnographic studies including overnight polysomnography, home sleep apnea testing, and other sleep studies. Monitor and record physiological data during sleep studies to ensure accurate results.
  • Equipment Operation: Set up, calibrate, and operate polysomnographic equipment. Ensure the equipment is functioning correctly and make adjustments as needed.
  • Patient Preparation and Monitoring: Prepare patients for sleep studies by applying electrodes, sensors, and other monitoring devices according to established protocols. Monitor patients throughout the study, ensuring their comfort and addressing any issues that arise.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Accurately collect and record sleep data, including sleep stages, respiratory events, and other physiological parameters. Analyze data to identify sleep disorders and abnormalities.
  • Documentation: Document patient information, study results, and any issues encountered during the study. Prepare comprehensive reports for review by sleep physicians.
  • Patient Interaction: Provide clear instructions and education to patients regarding sleep studies, including preparation, procedure, and post-study care. Address patient concerns and ensure a positive experience.
  • Quality Assurance: Follow established protocols and standards for sleep studies, including adherence to American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines. Ensure that all procedures are performed in compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with sleep physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to interpret results and develop patient care plans. Assist in the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Technical Support: Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues as they arise. Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced staff as needed.
  • Demonstrates flexibility with assignments within professional scope/duties/licensure.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with advancements in sleep technology and treatment.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, patient intake, and billing when required.
