The Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing, monitoring, and scoring under the supervision of a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) and/or the Clinical Director (MD, PhD, or DO). The technician collects, analyzes, and integrates patient information to identify and address patient-specific needs, including physical or mental limitations, emotional or physiological status related to testing, and relevant medical and social history. Testing parameters and procedures are determined in accordance with laboratory protocols and in collaboration with the ordering provider or clinical director. The technician prepares, calibrates, and operates polysomnographic equipment to ensure proper function and signal quality. Electrodes and sensors are applied according to published standards, and physiologic calibrations are performed and adjusted as needed. The technician conducts PAP mask fitting and implements appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety and therapeutic effectiveness, including CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen administration. The technician follows established procedural protocols, including "lights out" and "lights on" procedures, to ensure accurate data collection. Completion of polysomnographic data acquisition and scoring is a required responsibility, with ongoing monitoring of study quality and signal integrity. The Polysomnographic Technician complies with BRPT standards of conduct and all applicable clinical, safety, and documentation requirements. The technician will comply with BRPT standards of conduct.
