About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Community Pharmacy Manager. The primary job function of the Registered Pharmacist Supervisor is to manage the day to day operations of the pharmacy. In addition, to distribute medications and supplies according to departmental procedures with the assistance of pharmacy technicians. The Registered Pharmacist Supervisor will coordinate ordering of medications, scheduling of pharmacists and technicians, and MTM operations. Collaborates with physicians and other hospital staff on medication related matters. Educates patients and their families to optimize drug therapy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (5 year) is required
  • Pharmacy (OH or KY) license, depending on state of practice, required.
  • BLS within 90 days of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) is also preferred
  • Graduate Pharmacists may also be hired awaiting license
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • Previous community pharmacy experience preferred
  • Completion of PGY1 or PGY2 residency in ambulatory pharmacy care is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Completes introductory and annual performance appraisals of staff, approves timecards, manages insurance contract setups, ensures appropriate payer reimbursement, manages patient complaints, and regularly takes calls during work hours and after work hours to manage scheduling issues and staff concerns.
  • Manages their area of responsibility to achieve metric expectations in all strategic value categories.
  • Optimizes operational efficiency.
  • Collaborates with other SOMC community pharmacy leaders to establish operational consistencies among pharmacies to allow for efficient staff floating, consistent patient care, and financial optimization.
  • Performs insurance, Board of Pharmacy, and Medicare audits.
  • Completes various governmental required reports such as the Annual Medicaid Cost of Dispensing Surveys, the SCRA Ohio 590, etc.
  • Maintains required license renewals such as NCPDP, NPI, DEA, TDDS, CSOS, insurance contracts, reimbursement contracts, etc.
  • Completes new insurance contracts, contract renewals or recertifications.
  • Completes payment remittances and reconciliations.
  • Submits Attestations and documentation of staff training compliance to various 3rd parties (HIPPA, CMS FWA, CMEA for Sudafed sales, etc.).
  • Collaborates with the SOMC Specialty Pharmacy to establish communication and workflows that meet patient and payer needs.
  • Compounds and dispenses medications and pharmaceutical supplies according to accepted standards of practice to fill written prescriptions issued by qualified prescribers.
  • Checks the accuracy and appropriateness of all medications dispensed.
  • Intervenes clinically with the physician when necessary and appropriate to optimize drug therapy.
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate patient profiling and charging records for all inpatient and non-inpatient medication orders.
  • Follows accepted standards of practice and adheres to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as the policies and procedures of SOMC and Pharmacy Services.
  • Serves as a drug information source for patients, physicians, nursing personnel, hospital staff, visitors, and the community.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Business Manager and Director of Pharmacy with certain assigned reports or projects.
  • Maintains a level of professional competency and remains current in the field of pharmacy.
  • Assigns, teaches, supervises, and monitors the work of Pharmacy Technicians, students, interns, residents, and externs.
  • Manages Pharmacy Technicians to ensure accurate departmental procedures.
