About The Position

This is a professional administrative nurse consultant position within the Division of Children’s Medical Services, Bureau of Pediatric Complex Care Programs. The individual provides nursing consultation and clinical expertise in pediatric nursing and performs independent and complex work under the supervision of the Program Contract Unit Director.

Requirements

  • Must hold and maintain a current and valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida, pursuant to Chapter 464, Florida Statutes.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of theories and concepts of preventative health care.
  • Knowledge of theories and concepts of pediatric health care.
  • Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines without sacrificing quality, accuracy, or customer service.
  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and complete work assignments.
  • Ability to identify, collect and organize data.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) with proficiency.
  • Incumbents may be required to perform emergency duty before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days.
  • All Florida Department of Health positions require the incumbent to be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing Degree or higher.

  • Program implementation or contractor performance monitoring experience.
  • 3-5 years of nursing experience.
  • Experience working in the pediatric field, including experience with children and youth with special healthcare needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing consultation and technical assistance to CMS staff, contracted providers and other community partners related to the clinical aspects of programmatic matters and contractual requirements, and healthcare quality improvement methods, concepts and requirements.
  • Performs timely clinical/programmatic quality and content reviews of provider-submitted deliverables and reports, in collaboration with unit staff, to ensure alignment with contractual requirements and clinical programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Makes recommendations, as needed, for corrections and/or additional information necessary to bring deliverables into compliance with clinical contractual requirements and appropriate deliverable quality.
  • Collaborates with unit Contract Managers to provide clinical expertise in the development of methods and metrics for evaluating programmatic contract performance and quality of services.
  • Provides clinical expertise and participates in programmatic contract monitoring activities including, but not limited to, site visits and desk reviews.
  • Makes recommendations for correcting identified deficiencies to improve provider performance and service delivery.
  • Facilitates statewide initiatives with contracted providers, internal stakeholders and external partners, as needed, to provide clinical expertise in support of improving the access and quality of healthcare services for children and youth with special healthcare needs.
  • Meets with contracted providers regularly to monitor performance, provide clinical consultation and technical assistance related to service delivery, quality improvement initiatives and/or other programmatic goals and objectives. Keeps unit staff and leadership informed of identified trends and performance issues with contracted providers.
  • Collaborates with community and other health care organizations on the clinical aspects of programmatic goals and objectives and health care quality improvement methods, concepts and requirements, as requested.
  • Collects, complies and maintains clinical programmatic data. Analyzes data and other information related to clinical programmatic requirements, key performance indicators, outcome measures and contractual requirements.
  • Develops, prepares and/or completes reports and other documents, using clinical programmatic expertise, to demonstrate contract provider performance, data, key performance indicators and/or outcome measures, as required.
  • Makes recommendations to unit leadership regarding identified clinical programmatic deficiencies, suggested improvements, and/or other initiatives to support improved access and quality of services for children and youth with special health care needs, and/or other programmatic goals and objectives.
  • Performs research, collects and analyzes clinical programmatic data from various external and internal sources related to quality improvement, programmatic initiatives, goals and objectives, as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
