About The Position

The Adult Medical Transitional unit (30 beds) provides care to a diverse adult patient population with an emphasis on acute and chronic medicine patients. These patients require more frequent interventions (every two hours) and more nuanced nursing assessments. Patients transition from the adult critical care units, Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Emergency Department and acute care floors to this unit, depending on their condition and nursing care needs. Patient population includes but is not limited to end stage renal disease, DKA, new arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, sepsis screening and infectious diseases. Patients on 14 Moffitt commonly have central lines, wound care, nasogastric tubes, Q2 medications, electrolyte replacements and require maximum assistance for activities for daily living. All beds have telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry monitoring capability. Nurses on this fast-paced, high acuity unit are a highly motivated group of professionals providing outstanding care to the entire patient populations served. Teamwork among our nursing staff, as well as physician and nurse collaboration, is well tuned and allows workflow to occur optimally. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.

  • Provide care requiring frequent interventions (every two hours) and nuanced nursing assessments.
  • Manage patients transitioning from critical care units, PACU, ED, and acute care floors.
  • Care for patients with end stage renal disease, DKA, new arrhythmias, respiratory compromise, sepsis screening, and infectious diseases.
  • Administer care for patients with central lines, wound care, nasogastric tubes, Q2 medications, electrolyte replacements.
  • Provide maximum assistance for activities of daily living.
  • Utilize telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry monitoring.
  • Work in a fast-paced, high acuity unit.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
