About The Position

Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Surgical Short Stay Unit. This full-time position works 12-hour day shifts, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Registered Nurse provides knowledgeable, compassionate clinical care and care coordination, using a holistic and systematic approach centered on patients and families. The role integrates clinical knowledge, skills, and experience to address patient and family needs throughout the continuum of care, including education. It requires effective communication and collaboration with patients, families, and healthcare team members, and determining how care is delivered through direct communication, technology, and teamwork. Requirements

BSN from an accredited school of nursing; nurses with an Associate's Degree in Nursing must complete a BSN within five years of their start date.
At least one year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, or hold an active multistate Registered Nurse license.

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their interrelationships.
Formulate individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and patient-population trends to achieve best practice.
Provide patient- and family-centered care throughout the continuum, integrating knowledge, skills, and experience to meet patient and family needs.
Advocate for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective, provide counsel, and act as a resource to resolve issues.
Access resources from all disciplines to achieve patient outcomes and coordinate healthcare and alternate services for patient and family transition planning.
Document patient care activities according to documentation standards and assist healthcare team members with documentation.
Evaluate outcomes, anticipate patient variances, and revise plans of care as needed.
Make clinical decisions based on experience, patient-population data, and intuition, while promoting clinical decision-making development among team members.
Communicate effectively and work cooperatively with respect for other clinical disciplines.
Assist staff in assessing patients' learning needs and measuring patient education outcomes.
Guide others in practice; serve as a clinical resource, preceptor, and mentor; delegate patient care activities; and coordinate unit activities as needed.
Use standards, guidelines, and pathways for care delivery, drawing on patient and family communication, technology, and healthcare team collaboration.
Obtain at least six formal contact hours and maintain a Team Member Continuing Education Record.
Evaluate clinical and quality outcomes and contribute to performance improvement initiatives.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
