The Registered Nurse (RN) position is a leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of holistic care and services to residents, particularly those in a Hospice setting. The RN collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure individualized and ongoing nursing care, addressing the changing needs of residents. This role requires acting as a resident advocate, facilitator, change agent, educator, and resource manager. The RN will also provide support to residents and their families during the end-of-life journey, ensuring choice, dignity, privacy, respect, and individuality. The position requires modeling the organization's mission, vision, and values, and collaborating effectively as a team player.

Requirements

Graduate from a recognized school of Nursing required
Active College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Registration as a Registered Nurse
Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required
One (1) year of experience in a Hospice / Palliative Care environment required
Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills and able to utilize professional judgment
Strong assessment skills and critical thinking skills considered an asset
Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues with exceptional active listening skills
Ability to cope with moral distress related to end of life care
Ability to cope with frequent changes such as daily routine, workload, shifts and resident needs
Exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills
Required proof of completion of vaccination
All employees new to Covenant Care must provide a criminal record check not older than 3 months ahead of your commencement date.

Nice To Haves

Baccalaureate Degree preferred
Experience as a charge nurse preferred

Responsibilities

Managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team.
Working cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing.
Addressing and meeting the changing needs of residents.
Managing the day-to-day delivery of holistic care and services to Hospice residents.
Collaborating with the healthcare team to meet the individual needs of residents.
Acting as a leader and mentor to LPNs and Resident Assistants (HCAs) by motivating and empowering the team.
Ensuring excellence in the completion of nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
Ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures.
Providing support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.
Modeling the organizations mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively.
Collaborating effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
