The Registered Nurse (RN) position is a leadership role responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of holistic care and services to residents, particularly those in a Hospice setting. The RN collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to ensure individualized and ongoing nursing care, addressing the changing needs of residents. This role requires acting as a resident advocate, facilitator, change agent, educator, and resource manager. The RN will also provide support to residents and their families during the end-of-life journey, ensuring choice, dignity, privacy, respect, and individuality. The position requires modeling the organization's mission, vision, and values, and collaborating effectively as a team player.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a recognized school of Nursing required
  • Active College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required
  • One (1) year of experience in a Hospice / Palliative Care environment required
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills and able to utilize professional judgment
  • Strong assessment skills and critical thinking skills considered an asset
  • Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
  • Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues with exceptional active listening skills
  • Ability to cope with moral distress related to end of life care
  • Ability to cope with frequent changes such as daily routine, workload, shifts and resident needs
  • Exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills
  • Required proof of completion of vaccination
  • All employees new to Covenant Care must provide a criminal record check not older than 3 months ahead of your commencement date.

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree preferred
  • Experience as a charge nurse preferred

Responsibilities

  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team.
  • Working cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing.
  • Addressing and meeting the changing needs of residents.
  • Managing the day-to-day delivery of holistic care and services to Hospice residents.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team to meet the individual needs of residents.
  • Acting as a leader and mentor to LPNs and Resident Assistants (HCAs) by motivating and empowering the team.
  • Ensuring excellence in the completion of nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
  • Ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures.
  • Providing support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.
  • Modeling the organizations mission, vision, and values, consistently representing Covenant professionally and positively.
  • Collaborating effectively as a professional team player, supporting the achievement of Covenant’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
