About The Position

The Menino Post Anesthesia Care Unit/Pre-Operative Unit at Boston Medical Center consists of 52 bays, all equipped with advanced Intensive Care monitoring and providing Pre-Operative care. This unit functions as a holding area for procedural patients requiring specialized cardiac and interventional care, and also serves as a high acuity recovery area for patients stabilizing after surgery. The registered nurse adheres to the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and regulations, is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care, and is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the healthcare continuum, following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.

Requirements

  • Diploma, ASN, or BSN required (BSN preferred)
  • Must obtain BSN within 4 years if not currently held
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Current basic life support (BLS) certification
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life support (ACLS) certification
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work
  • Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects
  • Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to the patient populations served
  • Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities following practice setting demands for the patient populations regularly served
  • Ability to effectively manage stress due to critical issues related to patient care, changing organizational climate, and personnel issues
  • 1 + years of nursing experience required
  • Critical Care experience required (PACU, ED, ICU)
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and flu, as well as receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

Nice To Haves

  • Multilingual skills (beyond that of English) in languages appropriate to the patient populations served by the medical center preferred
  • Previous/Current PACU experience strongly preferred
