Registered Nurse (RN) Medical Oncology
About The Position
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for Cornell 2, a Medical/Surgical Unit specializing in Neuro Oncology, urology, vascular, and chest tube care. This is a full-time Day Shift position in Charlottesville, VA, with hours from 7 AM to 7 PM. The unit offers a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5/1:6, providing a dynamic environment for experienced nurses and new graduates. They care for a diverse patient population, including those with CHF, COPD, oncology patients with neutropenia or new diagnoses, and amputations. The unit operates on 12-hour shifts with weekend rotations and offers comprehensive orientation and ongoing professional development. The team is led by a clinical manager who is a recipient of the 2025 Clinical President's Award. Sentara Martha Jefferson has a low RN Turnover rate of under 12.6% and the highest patient satisfaction scores in the system.
Requirements
- Registered nursing License (Required)
- Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.

- Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Responsibilities
- Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
- Utilize the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
- Apply the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
- Meet standards as required by specific clinical areas with clinical knowledge and skills.
