About The Position

Responsible for conducting assessments on all patients and making arrangements for medical evaluation and or testing as applicable prior to patients scheduled procedure/surgery. This position is responsible for ensuring that the patient receives education on how to prepare for and what to expect on the day of their procedure/surgery. Responsible for ensuring the medical record is complete and prepared with all of the appropriate documentation, including any lab work. As a representative of this facility, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the center's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, guest, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork that is congruent with the center's standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Current RN license preferred.
  • Graduate from an approved school of professional nursing preferred.
  • Two (2) years related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior working experience with electronic medical records (EMR) software preferred.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Computer efficiency, and willingness to learn multiple new programs.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) and present information to patients, families, co-workers, etc.
  • Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet the needs of the center’s daily surgery schedule.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in stressful situations.
  • Ability to follow direction and willingness to be trained and learn.
  • Ability to work with all disciplines in the facility in a professional manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree from a two year college or university preferred.
  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable that patient care meets standards of safety, effectiveness, patient rights and guest relations
  • Treats patients respectfully, in a calm and courteous manner at all times.
  • Conducts Perioperative phone screening of pre-operative surgical patients.
  • Provides arrival times, and pre-operative instructions to patients.
  • Contact by way of telephone, all patients prior to surgery to assess medical and medication history , review for appropriate labs, x-ray, EKG orders to determine when these are to be completed and provide pre-admission teaching.
  • Conducts a thorough assessment, documents findings, and communicates pertinent information to the appropriate medical and clinical personnel.
  • Provides the patient and or legal guardian comprehensive instructions on how to prepare for the procedure/surgery, including but not limited to any required pre-op testing, NPO guidelines, arrival times, what to bring day of procedure/surgery, and the need for a family member to be present and have ride available the day of procedure/surgery.
  • Adheres to the pre-admission assessment and screening policy and identifies patients that require further review and approval by the anesthesiologist/surgeon prior to the day of surgery.
  • Ensures the medical record is complete with all appropriate test results and required documents, e.g. nursing assessment, H&P, orders, etc. prior to the patient’s arrival.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
