About The Position

Baptist Health Walker Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Intermediate Care Unit (IMC). This is a full-time position working three 12-hour night shifts. The role involves providing advanced nursing care for critically ill patients, utilizing clinical judgment for rapid response to changing conditions, operating specialized medical equipment, and responding to emergencies. The nurse will assess patient needs, develop care plans, collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, coordinate care, and ensure accurate documentation. Compassionate, age-appropriate care, legal awareness, and patient advocacy are key aspects of this role.

Requirements

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
• Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Baptist Health unit/department.
• Maintains current State of Alabama RN license.
• Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
• Must have at least 1 year of RN experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced nursing care for critically ill patients, including complex assessments, high-intensity interventions, and continuous monitoring.
• Uses clinical judgment and assessment data to anticipate, prioritize, and respond quickly to rapidly changing patient conditions.
• Operates and interprets specialized medical equipment and monitors, including cardiac, respiratory, and hemodynamic systems.
• Responds to emergencies with evidence-based, life-saving interventions and preplanned protocols when physicians are unavailable.
• Assesses patient needs, develops individualized care plans, evaluates outcomes, and advocates for patients and families.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, serves in leadership or educational roles, and supports unit and hospital goals.
• Coordinates care, delegates appropriately, documents accurately, and ensures compliance with regulatory and evidence-based standards.
• Demonstrates compassionate, age-appropriate care while maintaining legal awareness, patient rights, and a therapeutic environment.
