About The Position

The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, is recruiting an intermittent Registered Nurse for its Float Pool, with the main focus on night shifts from 1900 to 0730. The position is not virtual, and telework is not available. Relocation and recruitment incentives, as well as permanent change of station, are not authorized. Float Pool Nurses are accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing or supervising direct patient care. They assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care using age-specific considerations and the individual patient's characteristics, health status, life stage, and prior experiences. Care coordination supports transitions across the continuum of care, patient and family education, self-management after discharge, and customer satisfaction. Nurses administer medications and procedures according to established policies and guidelines and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team. They participate in unit- or program-level quality improvement initiatives and customer service programs. The position requires a nursing education meeting VA standards and current, full, active, unrestricted nursing registration in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Applicants must be proficient in written and spoken English. Grade assignment depends on education, nursing experience, and the applicable practice, patient-care, leadership, professional-development, and evidence-based-practice dimensions. Preferred experience includes hospital Float Pool work in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, or Medical/Surgical settings. The work involves physical activity and potential exposure to infected patients, contaminated materials, and occasionally combative patients. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. Employees must complete annual Employee Health requirements, including TB screening or testing, and participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program. A pre-employment physical evaluation is required.
