About The Position

The registered nurse (RN) coordinates nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients, using the ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice as a basis for practice.

The RN provides leadership through precepting, informal leadership, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource adequacy. The position requires strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills; the RN may also participate on committees or projects. Some employees may be required to drive a personal vehicle as part of their role. The role is eligible for TN sponsorship, which requires state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification.

Requirements

• Graduate of a nursing program.
• Current RN license meeting applicable state requirements.
• Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, unless the work area determines it is not required for a position that is not on campus.
• Additional state licensure and/or specialty certification or training as required by the work area.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and on-call.
• Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the work setting.
• Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and excellent critical-thinking skills.
• For successful TN sponsorship, state licensure and completion of VisaScreen or equivalent certification are required.

Nice To Haves

• One year of RN experience in an applicable care setting, or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
• Prior experience with electronic medical record systems.
