About The Position

This Registered Nurse position in Emergency Services is a casual role where the nurse collaborates with physicians to develop and implement patient care plans aimed at returning patients to optimal health. The role involves providing direct bedside nursing care, executing medical orders, and overseeing the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants, Patient Care Associates, and others. The nurse is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan and plays a leadership role in integrating evidence-based practices, delegating tasks, and coordinating nursing care. This includes facilitating patient conferences, identifying and addressing patient teaching needs for ongoing care and discharge/transfer, and assuming responsibility for professional growth through continuous education. The role also involves teaching and mentoring other personnel, including new employees and students, and functioning as a team leader to ensure appropriate patient placement and assignment delegation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Basic Neuroscience course; required within first 6 months of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course.
  • Must complete TNCC (Trauma Nurse Certification) within one (1) year of hire/transfer.
  • Must complete ENPC within two (2) years of hire/transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent preferred.
  • Critical Care Nurse preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physician to provide a plan of care that will return the patient to optimal health.
  • Provides bedside nursing care and carries out medical orders.
  • Delegates to and oversees Nurse Assistant, Patient Care Associate, OB Care Associate, Surgical Service Assistant, Nursing Clerk and Psychiatric Tech functions.
  • Responsible for evaluating effectiveness of care plan.
  • Integrates evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegation and coordination of tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient conferences.
  • Identifies and provides the means to meet patients’ ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs by communicating with the appropriate resource persons and attending discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Assumes the responsibility for professional growth by seeking out educational opportunities and utilizing programs in the hospital or elsewhere in the community.
  • Teaches and/or guides professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precepts/mentors new employees and students.
  • Functions as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.
