About The Position

Provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in an acute inpatient setting, fostering patient- and family-centered care. Uses evidence-based practices throughout assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, incorporating safety protocols, cost containment, quality improvement, and patient, unit, and organizational priorities. The nurse must comply with organizational policies and regulatory requirements and provide care within the scope of the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. Acute inpatient work may include weekend, holiday, and on-call scheduling. The role is in the 16-bed Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, which cares for critically ill patients with nervous system injuries or diseases. Patients may have undergone craniotomies, tumor resections, or interventional radiology procedures, or may have ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes, including SAH, post-TPA care, brain tumors, or AVMs. The nurse works with a multidisciplinary team and receives continued education focused on neuroscience patients. Nurses directly assist practitioners during bedside procedures, including IVD placement, CVC insertion, and intubations. The nurse assesses patients, develops and updates individualized care plans with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary team, delivers and coordinates care, delegates tasks appropriately, monitors patient safety and care quality, evaluates outcomes, documents care, and supports patient and family education. This is a non-management role and is eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus for external candidates only.
