About The Position

Firelands Health is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for their Cancer Center. This PRN position involves administering nursing care for oncology patients, participating in patient and family teaching, and collaborating with the nursing department and interdisciplinary team to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the clinical oncology setting. The role includes assessing patient needs, setting goals, prescribing nursing actions, administering chemotherapy in the outpatient clinic, assisting physicians and nurse practitioners, reporting and recording patient observations, participating in patient care review meetings, handling patient-related calls, assisting with reports and procedure development, creating patient and family teaching programs, participating in research, providing direct and indirect care to cancer patients, serving patients of all ages, participating in the orientation of new personnel and student observers, managing supplies economically, maintaining equipment, demonstrating professional commitment, and completing patient charge forms for accurate billing.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited course for registered nurses.
  • Prior background in oncology.
  • Current Ohio R.N. license.
  • Current ONS Chemotherapy provider card.
  • Ability to maintain neat and orderly records, reports and forms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to handle difficult telephone and face-to-face inquiries.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Ability to lift immobile patients.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Prefer O.C.N. (Oncology Certified Nurse).
  • If not currently certified, Oncology Nursing Certification should be obtained within 1 year once ONCC required hours are met.

Responsibilities

  • Administers nursing care for oncology patients.
  • Participates in patient and family teaching.
  • Works cooperatively with the nursing department and interdisciplinary team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical oncology setting.
  • Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs; sets goals; prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of cancer patients.
  • Administers chemotherapy in the outpatient clinic.
  • Assists physicians and nurse practitioner.
  • Reports pertinent patient observations and reactions to the appropriate person and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Participates in patient care review meetings.
  • Handles incoming calls relating to patient care addressing needs/updating patient by the end of the business day.
  • Assists in preparing reports and developing procedures.
  • Develops and utilizes teaching programs for patients and families based on their specific need.
  • Participates in research activity.
  • Provides direct and/or indirect care to cancer patients utilizing Firelands practice standards and evidence-based practice.
  • Regularly demonstrates the ability to serve patients of all ages in the routine performance of duties.
  • Participates in orientation of new nursing personnel and student observers.
  • Participates in economical utilization ordering of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Demonstrates professional commitment through membership in specialty organization and nursing committees.
  • Completes patient charge form, to facilitate accurate billing.
