About The Position

The (11pm-7am) Registered Nurse (RN) may provide direct primary nursing care to patients, supervise and direct licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants in a professional manner. The RN may also work in the role of Nursing Supervisor. This role involves administrative duties such as serving as House Supervisor in the absence of DON, ADON, and/or RN Supervisor, supporting and participating in the center’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program, and participating on committees as needed or assigned. Clinically, the RN will supervise and direct licensed and non-licensed nursing employees, promote and maintain effective working relationships with physicians/physician extenders, lab, and pharmacy partners, as well as nursing employees, other departments, patients, families, visitors, and other health care centers. The RN directs and supervises the delivery of patient care, makes rounds to observe and assess patients daily, and reports any significant change in a patient’s condition to other team members, the physician/physician extender, the patient and legal representative. They will complete required documentation, monitor nursing care documentation for appropriateness, conciseness, and timeliness, and keep nursing administration and management informed regarding evaluations of patient care. Participation in clinical rounds with medical providers, reviewing physician/physician extender orders, diagnostic and pharmacy reports, and following up with pharmacy regarding medication changes are also key responsibilities. The RN will address complaints and follow-up in a timely manner, keeping nursing administration/management informed of outcomes. Incident/accident reports will be completed and followed up on, and reported to administrative nursing personnel. The role includes performing physical assessments, recognizing normal and abnormal physiological findings, performing wound care, assisting in the development and updating of the patient’s plan of care, and performing nursing tasks in accordance with standards of practice. Participation in patient admissions, discharges, and transfers, providing direct care when needed (including medication administration and wound care), and providing report for new patient admissions are also part of the duties. Performs other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

Current RN license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification.

Keeps nursing administration and management informed regarding evaluations of patient care.
Participate in clinical rounds with medical providers when indicated to provide pertinent information regarding the patient’s care/condition and will follow through with the physician/physician extender orders.
Reviews physician/physician extender orders, diagnostic and pharmacy reports.
Follows up with pharmacy regarding a change in medication.
Addresses complaints and follows-up in a timely manner.
Keeps nursing administration/management informed of complaint/follow-up outcomes.
Completes incident/accident reports and performs follow-up to address concerns.
Incident/accidents will be reported to administrative nursing personnel.
Performs physical assessment for patients, recognizes normal and abnormal physiological findings and compared against the patient’s baseline.
Reports findings as indicated.
Performs wound care in accordance with physician/physician-extender orders.
Documents treatments completed.
Assists in the development of the patient’s plan of care and assists updating the plan of care as indicated.
Performs nursing tasks or skills in accordance with standards of practice.
Participates in the admission, discharge and transfer of patients.
Provides direct care to patients when needed including the administration of medication and the provision of wound care.
Provides report for new patient admissions, as indicated, while ensuring that rooms are ready and prepared to receive a new patient admission prior to the patient arriving, as indicated.
Performs other duties, as assigned.
