About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) supports the delivery of healthcare services at the adult daycare center under the direction and supervision of the Center Director. In the absence of the Center Director, the RN is responsible for managing center operations and ensuring continuity of care. The RN ensures compliance with all applicable State health regulations, organizational policies, and clinical standards. The Registered Nurse reports directly to the Center Director and is accountable for the satisfactory performance of all essential job functions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Registered Nursing program from an accredited school.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Maryland.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or adult day care center.
  • Knowledge of geriatric nursing principles and dementia care best practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software applications used to retrieve data, create spreadsheets, and generate reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact, diplomacy, and discretion when interacting with internal staff, participants, families, and external community partners.
  • Proven team-building skills and the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • High level of professionalism, flexibility, collaboration, and sound judgment.
  • Commitment to maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully.
  • You must possess a current license to practice nursing in the State of Maryland.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • State and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Check.
  • National Sex Offender Public Registry Check.
  • Physical examination and Tuberculin PPD Tine Test at time of employment and annually (or as required by physician).

  • Experience working with elderly and disabled populations, including individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise nursing care staff and other assigned personnel; ensure all required certifications, including CPR and First Aid, are current and maintained.
  • Assist the Center Director and Services staff with collecting, analyzing, and monitoring monthly center data and reports.
  • Manage, order, and maintain inventory of all centers and medical supplies.
  • Lead and oversee daily physical exercise and wellness activities for participants.
  • Renew physician orders; coordinate and manage participant medical appointments; request and process medication refills with pharmacies.
  • Document observations of participants’ levels of functioning in medical records; accurately chart absences and report incidents or occurrences.
  • Conduct monthly health monitoring for each participant, including weight and vital signs.
  • Administer medications and treatments, including insulin, nebulizer treatments, gastrostomy tube (GT) feedings, and blood glucose monitoring, in accordance with physician orders and care plans.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of medical supplies and perform related administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Follow and implement each participant’s individualized Plan of Care (POC).
  • Collaborate and communicate with external agencies, including the Office on Aging, Department of Social Services (DSS), ARC, DHM, and administrative entities.
  • Assist the interdisciplinary team with implementation and ongoing evaluation of participant Plans of Care.
  • Assist participants with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal care and mobility, as needed.
  • Aid with participants’ healthcare and personal needs in a respectful and supportive manner.
  • Assist with preparation and serving of participant meals; aid as needed during meals; support cleanup and sanitation of the facility following meals.
  • Support participants in group and individual activities, including therapeutic and recreational programming.
  • Accompany and supervise participants during field trips and community outings.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support center operations and participant care.
