About The Position

UofL Health is seeking experienced and new graduate Registered Nurses (RNs) for its high acuity Progressive Care Units (PCUs) at UofL Hospital. The hospital is an academic teaching and research facility in downtown Louisville, known for its comprehensive cancer center, trauma team, and accredited stroke center. UofL Hospital and Brown Cancer Center have achieved Magnet recognition. The RN will deliver nursing care using the nursing process and practice standards, focusing on safe, optimal patient and family-centered care, coordinating patient care, and professional development. This role involves caring for complex patients and contributing to quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (required)
  • Current KY RN licensure or compact license with privileges to work in Kentucky (required)
  • Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
  • All new RN graduates will participate in the Nurse Residency program and must successfully complete all activities (required)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program (preferred)
  • Two years of hospital patient care experience (preferred)
  • Additional, specialized certifications may be required or preferred based on unit

Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic, continuous, and comprehensive assessments of patient health status from admission to discharge, ensuring patient safety and collaborating with the healthcare team, patient, and family.
  • Administer medications per licensure authority, assess their effects, and document administration in a timely manner, adhering to patient safety guidelines.
  • Plan care in collaboration with the patient and family, using current scientific knowledge and care standards, to achieve optimal patient and family outcomes.
  • Identify and prioritize patient problems based on assessment data, safety considerations, patient/family goals, and the medical plan of care.
  • Implement nursing care interventions to meet patient and family-centered healthcare needs, demonstrating competent skills and clinical judgment.
  • Assess, conduct, and evaluate the outcomes of patient and family teaching, ensuring sensitivity to age, learning needs, and cultural background.
  • Evaluate care by reviewing patient/family responses to interventions and revising the plan of care collaboratively to promote desired outcomes.
  • Serve as an advocate for the patient and family, respecting their rights, responsibilities, and preferences.
  • Work collaboratively with unlicensed assistive healthcare providers, ensuring safe patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrate professional conduct and accountability for actions and outcomes.
  • Orient new healthcare team members and supervise students.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education, ongoing competency demonstration, licensure, and professional activities.
  • Participate in evidence-based practice activities and discussions about care outcomes.
  • Actively participate as a collaborative member of the healthcare team, communicating constructively.
  • Perform duties in a cost-effective manner, avoiding waste of hospital resources.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Comply with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
