About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Acute IMC Unit is a full-time position requiring 36 hours weekly, with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. This role is located in Silver Spring, Maryland. The IMC Registered Nurse is expected to provide bedside care to a diverse and acutely ill patient population. The nurse must possess the knowledge and skill to safely apply the nursing process to assess, plan, and evaluate the care of patients with various health conditions. The 30-bed unit specializes in high-acuity patients across a spectrum of complex specialties, often requiring cardiac telemetry monitoring and/or mechanical ventilator support. The unit is equipped with two negative pressure rooms and patient lift assist equipment in all rooms. An on-site Nurse educator is available, and an Acute/Critical Care course is offered for nurses new to the acute, in-patient population.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program; basic professional nursing degree required (BSN preferred). Note, if the BSN or MSN degree is not present on hire, the employee must sign an agreement to obtain within a specific time frame.
  • Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing or Compact State as a Registered Nurse.
  • BLS certification (issued through the American Heart Association).
  • At least 1 year of nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Superb interpersonal, communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Competency in electronic patient management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support patient-centered continuum of care.
  • Ability to communicate variances from patient goals and advocate on behalf of patient.
  • Maintain accurate and timely healthcare records.
  • Administer medications to patients, provide education and monitor for efficacy and side effects.
  • Assess, monitor, report and record patient condition and pertinent changes.
  • Design, implement and evaluate patient nursing care plans with healthcare team.
  • Educates patients and family throughout stay and in preparation for discharge.
