About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care for assigned patients during a given period. The RN works under minimal supervision and in accordance with established policies, procedures, and professional nursing standards, and performs other assignments as required. The role is on a 25-bed unit that includes a three-bed SCU unit with private rooms. Nurse-to-patient ratios are based on acuity, self-scheduling is offered on a rotating basis, and an on-site provider is available 24 hours a day.

Requirements

Graduate of an associate degree, baccalaureate degree, or diploma school of nursing.
Current Illinois RN licensure; applicants with Illinois RN licensure in progress may be considered.
Current BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

ACLS certification is preferred.
Three years of experience is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Complete physical assessments and patient interviews according to departmental policy.
Implement patient care plans by providing and delegating direct care.
Identify and communicate unusual or abnormal assessments and patient care problems to the Charge Nurse or Manager.
Administer medications safely and accurately within professional judgment and policy, following medication administration rights.
Initiate, monitor, and manage IV therapy.
Teach and reinforce teaching for patients, family members, and significant others during care.
Review instructions with patients, family members, and significant others before transfer or discharge, and send appropriate forms.
Determine and delegate assignments so tasks are completed within the allotted time.
Explain procedures and treatments to patients, families, and significant others before completion.
Maintain knowledge of job-related duties, including infection control, OSHA blood-borne pathogen requirements, TB/respiratory protection plans, policies, and procedures.
Maintain patient confidentiality and access patient information only on a need-to-know basis.
