About The Position

The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper. The nurse establishes an authentic, personalized relationship with patients and their chosen support systems, and collaborates with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health. The nurse uses scientific evidence and compassion to help patients navigate their health journeys and is accountable for managing and providing care in accordance with current policies and procedures. Patient care is provided and documented under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager. The role includes providing nursing care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department, working with the healthcare team to deliver efficient treatment, and performing additional duties as assigned. The position is part-time and may require on-call responsibilities, travel between campus buildings and remote facilities, and use of safety equipment such as a HEPA mask for infection prevention.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current RN licensure in the applicable state.
Ability to perform basic nursing skills for groups of patients and assume charge responsibility.
Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.
Ability to administer medication using the five rights.
Verbal and written communication ability.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to safely and effectively care for all patient populations presenting to the department.
CPI certification within three months of hire for Emergency Department staff.
If an RN license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more and the candidate has not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board-approved refresher course is required before license reactivation or reinstatement. Reinstatement must be applied for within one year of completing the refresher course.
Ability to meet the role's physical demands, including constant standing, frequent walking, bending or stooping, and lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 100 pounds; Safe Handling Equipment must be used for weights over 35 pounds.
Proficient communication, auditory, and visual skills; attention to detail; and ability to write legibly.

Nice To Haves

Four-year bachelor's degree preferred.
One year of relevant experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Establish personalized relationships with patients and their chosen support systems.
Collaborate with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
Provide and document patient care under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager or Nurse Manager.
Advocate for patients while implementing interdisciplinary plans of care.
Educate patients and their support systems in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress patients through their plans of care.
Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and related therapies.
Prioritize duties according to patient needs and changing acuity levels.
Build positive relationships with team members and internal customers to support efficient patient treatment.
Mentor, precept, orient, and provide feedback to team members.
Resolve conflicts independently when appropriate and respond constructively to feedback.
Provide routine nursing care, including starting IVs and performing dressing changes, for multiple patients in a timely manner.
Assist in critical situations, including administering CPR.
Administer and evaluate medication therapies.
Perform patient transfers and transport patients by wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
