About The Position

Sentara Leigh Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Medical Surgical GI-Stroke Unit, 2 West. This unit holds the PRISM (Premiere Recognition in Specialty of Medical-Surgical) Distinction. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. The patient population is comprised of Stroke, Kidney Failure, Diabetes, Diagnostic Testing, GI Surgical, Respiratory and also includes patients requiring chest tubes and trachs. The nurses on this 25 bed medicine unit are committed to providing world class care and have an active voice in decision that impact workflow. The unit educator offers individualized orientation and oversees ongoing educational development to help advance your career. This unit welcomes new graduate nurses and experienced nurses moving into this specialty. The 11-week Transition to Practice program focuses on the orientation transition experience with intentional knowledge support and skill acquisition for practice in IMC areas. For new graduates, this TTP program is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program to support your transition to practice.

Requirements

  • Education Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • None required experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (Preferred)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.
