About The Position

Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Grapevine is seeking a Registered Nurse for their fast-paced Medical/Surgical Orthopedics unit. This unit cares for high acuity patients with diverse conditions including surgical (orthopedic, neurosurgery, colorectal, gynecological, urology, plastics, bariatrics, general surgery, trauma) and medical diagnoses (cellulitis, SBO, AMS, GI, hospice, diabetes). The unit has 40 beds and a patient ratio of 1:5. The leadership team fosters an environment that supports learning, mentoring, and team member development. The unit boasts a diverse workforce, is team-oriented, strongly promotes collaboration, offers self-scheduling, and has a Magnet Designated status with an active unit shared governance structure. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Grapevine is a 302-bed Magnet® Recognized Facility providing comprehensive medical services and advanced care in various specialties. It is recognized for its Level II Trauma Center, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and accreditations in cardiac and stroke care, among others. The hospital has received high performing ratings from U.S. News & World Report for stroke, heart failure, kidney failure, COPD, and maternity care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an Accredited Program in nursing.
  • RN license.
  • BLS certification or obtain within 30 days of starting.
  • 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience.
  • A deep understanding of nursing and patient care standards, as well as procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing laws, rules, standards, and guidelines in your area.
  • Understanding of hospital procedures and rules.
  • Proficiency in medical terms, focusing on health, disease prevention, management, common meds, and their side effects.
  • Respect for medical and professional nursing ethics and patient privacy rights.
  • Exceptional communication skills, allowing for clear expression of thoughts both verbally and in writing.
  • Positive social skills to facilitate interactions with a diverse range of parties.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, driving effective critical thinking.
  • Basic computer skills, encompassing areas such as Microsoft Office, information security, scheduling and payroll systems, electronic medical documentation, and email.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee patient care using a professional practice model.
  • Conduct patient assessments, recognize health issues, and create care plans.
  • Assess patient responses to care.
  • Secure patient travel.
  • Understand patient needs in healthcare.
  • Help patients and prevent issues.
  • Follow the Texas Nursing Practice Act and delegate tasks based on condition and team competencies.
  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments and prioritize patient and family needs.
  • Create, implement, and evaluate care plans, adjusting them to reach desired outcomes.
  • Build relationships, manage discomfort, and maintain professionalism in therapeutic connections with patients and families.
  • Create care plans reflecting values to aid in resolving issues.
  • Educate patients, families, nurses, and community members, empowering them with knowledge for better healthcare choices.
  • Assess and document learning needs regularly.
  • Work with colleagues and the community to create a care plan.
  • Delegate tasks carefully and follow up promptly.
  • Use different strategies for problem-solving with patients, families, and staff.
  • Recognize limitations and prioritize safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care planning and delivery.
  • Achieve goals through teamwork, recognize contributions, and commit to growth.
  • Contribute to peers' development and show commitment to community service.
