About The Position

Utilizing the nursing process, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing for the immediate and long-term nursing care needs of patients within the standards of the department, hospital, and regulatory agencies. This role is on a generalized inpatient psychiatric unit with a primary focus on the treatment of depression and anxiety, also caring for patients with a wide range of psychiatric disorders, including OCD, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, self-harming behaviors, homicidally, and co-occurring substance use disorders. The team provides patient-centered care through therapeutic engagement, medication management, and behavioral interventions in a supportive, team-based environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to utilize the nursing process and to work collaboratively.
  • MR safety certification.
  • Standard blood draw procedures (excluding IV placement).
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
  • Registered Nurse [RN - State License] - Generic - HR Only required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree Nursing preferred
  • One year medical/psychiatric experience preferred
  • 0-1 year experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Accurately assesses patients’ needs, utilizing multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status.
  • Utilizes Recovery Oriented Framework to identify patient strengths.
  • Performs point of care testing and communicates findings effectively to the healthcare team.
  • Documents patient response to intervention and understanding of treatment interventions.
  • Identifies patient behaviors contributing to crisis development and utilizes techniques to de-escalate.
  • Accurately plans, modifies, and individualizes Nursing Plan of Care and protocols.
  • Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan and prioritizes patient care needs.
  • Partners with patients/families to support recovery goals and establishes a therapeutic alliance.
  • Provides and implements nursing care interventions, including safe, accurate, and timely medication administration using BMV scanning.
  • Reviews physician orders in a timely manner and promotes interventions that provide least-restrictive alternatives and recovery-oriented goals.
  • Participates in leading patient groups and accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions.
  • Communicates patients’ clinical status at clinical team rounds and change of shift reports.
  • Utilizes evidence-based nursing knowledge to guide practice decisions.
  • Provides a leadership role in organizing and providing patient care, including direction and supervision of MHSs and delegation of care interventions.
  • Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies, promotes critical incident de-briefing, and anticipates acute milieu problems, delegating staff appropriately.
  • Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers.
  • Provides for and documents teaching needs of patients and significant others related to patient needs and recovery goals.
  • Informs the treatment team of patients and significant others’ learning needs.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency, completing mandatory in-service requirements and maintaining competency for the treating patient population.
  • Seeks constructive feedback, identifies strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication, maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Communicates positively, supportively, and with courtesy to patients and staff, presenting self in a professional manner.
  • Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit through effective time management and economical management of services and supplies.
  • Notifies shift coordinator/charge nurse of availability for additional assignments.
