About The Position

We are seeking one experienced Registered Nurse to provide safe, patient-centered care in the 5SW Day Hospital at the NIH Clinical Center. This is a 13-week contract assignment with the possibility of a long-term or permanent full-time opportunity based on performance and continued staffing needs.

Requirements

  • Active, valid, and unrestricted RN license issued by at least one U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth
  • Associate degree, nursing diploma, or bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • Successful completion of the NCLEX-RN
  • At least two years of current acute-care hospital nursing experience
  • Current Basic Life Support certification
  • ACLS certification if required by the client
  • Demonstrated current clinical competency
  • Effective English communication skills
  • Computer literacy and proficiency with electronic clinical documentation
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident/Green Card status
  • Selected candidates must satisfy NIH credentialing, health, immunization, security, fingerprinting, background-investigation, and facility-access requirements.
  • All licenses, certifications, competencies, and health documentation must remain current throughout the assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, provide, and evaluate nursing care for patients receiving day-hospital services
  • Complete patient intake, medication reconciliation, focused assessments, and clinical screening
  • Prepare patients for scheduled treatments, infusions, procedures, or diagnostic services
  • Administer medications, fluids, blood products, and other treatments as ordered and within the RN’s authorized scope of practice
  • Monitor patients during treatment and promptly respond to changes, complications, or adverse reactions
  • Review clinical information, laboratory results, treatment orders, and discharge requirements
  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory personnel, and other healthcare professionals
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatments, medications, side effects, discharge instructions, and follow-up care
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential clinical documentation
  • Follow NIH clinical protocols, infection-control practices, patient-safety requirements, and professional standards
  • Participate in required orientation, training, and competency activities
  • Float to another patient-care area when needed, provided the assignment is within the RN’s demonstrated competency and scope of practice
