About The Position

Sentara Albemarle Medical Center is hiring a Registered Nurse for the Medical Telemetry Unit. This unit is comprised of 24 beds, with 17 beds for medical telemetry patients and 7 beds for stroke/neuro patients. The unit cares for adults with conditions such as stroke rule out, TIA, CVA, syncope, COPD, CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, and other acute problems requiring telemetry monitoring. A $15,000 sign-on bonus is available for qualified candidates. Sentara offers a dynamic 6-month Nurse Residency program for new graduate RNs with less than one year of experience, designed to provide practical skills, hands-on training, professional development, and mentoring. This program is automatically available to all new graduates and those transitioning to a new practice area, with no separate application required. The program includes General Nursing Orientation, a Specialty Clinical Track, Residency Professional Development Sessions, and Mentoring and Unit-based Preceptor Education.

Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
  • Registered nursing License (required)
  • Students in the process of obtaining a Registered Nursing License.
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • NIHSS required (or will be taught)
  • Less than one year of experience (for Nurse Residency program eligibility)
  • Students in the process of completing an accredited nursing program.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS (preferred)
  • Telemetry knowledge (preferred but will be taught)
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing- BSN or MSN (preferred)
  • 1 year of acute care experience (preferred)
  • Previous healthcare experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for adult patients with stroke rule out, TIA, CVA, syncope, COPD, CHF, diabetes, pneumonia, and other acute problems needing telemetry monitoring.
  • Monitor patients requiring telemetry monitoring.
  • Participate in the Nurse Residency program (for eligible candidates).
  • Engage in professional development sessions and mentoring.
  • Work with a unit-based preceptor.
