About The Position

Weiser Memorial Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse with OB experience to join their team. The RN will provide direct and indirect patient care in medical/surgical, obstetrics, and newborn settings. This role involves communication with physicians, the nurse manager, and other clinical staff regarding patient status and diagnostic results, and responding promptly to changes in patient condition. RNs may also perform general nursing duties in other departments with supervision. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Currently Registered Nurse license with the State of Idaho.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Working experience in labor and delivery.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and cope with potentially stressful situations.
  • Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with standards of performance improvement and organizational values.
  • Availability to work weekends, rotating holidays, and equally share in on-call coverage, as needed.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments per policy, including neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric, and general patient populations.
  • Assesses and reassesses pain utilizing appropriate pain management techniques and educates patients and families regarding pain management.
  • Responds quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or response to treatment.
  • Performs assigned laboratory and point of care tests accurately and per policies and procedures.
  • Interprets results of lab tests and takes appropriate action.
  • Develops nursing plans of care based on patient assessment and evaluates their effectiveness daily, revising as needed.
  • Involves patients and families in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Interprets patient status data to identify and provide age-specific care.
  • Coordinates, delegates, and supervises daily patient care per the nursing care plan.
  • Assists physicians with procedures within the RN scope of practice and per hospital policies.
  • Follows medication rights standards and reduces the potential for medication errors, basing decisions on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications and their correct administration.
  • Provides patient and family education based on identified learning needs and evaluates understanding.
  • Uses specialized medical equipment correctly and safely (e.g., CPM, SCDs, Buck’s Traction, Newborn Warmers).
  • Anticipates patient needs, answers call lights promptly, and makes rounds on assigned patients.
  • Advocates for the patient and functions as a liaison for the interdisciplinary team (lab, radiology, rehab, social services, family, and physician).
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles and provides age-appropriate care.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
  • Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation in the patient’s electronic medical record, including shift assessments, condition, treatment, medication, and patient response.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac monitoring and identifying dysrhythmias.
  • Demonstrates commitment to job with energy, initiative, positive attitude, and enthusiasm.
  • Cooperates with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives and maintains good employee relations.
  • Responds promptly to changes in workload, adjusting assignments as necessary for optimal productivity and efficiency.
  • Orients new employees to the Med/Surg/OB Department.
  • Participates in problem-solving with healthcare team members related to clinical care.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with physicians, staff, and other health services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
