Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals Nurse Residency program has earned the ANCC Practice Transition Accreditation Program®(PTAP) status. The RN Residency program consists of numerous classroom and simulation experiences that complement your unit orientation. You will receive an abundance of support during the program from your assigned preceptor, the clinical educator who supports your unit, and the Nurse Manager with whom you will meet routinely to ensure your success. We also have a mentoring program available to new graduates where you will be paired with experienced new nurses who will help ease the transition of being a new graduate. The average Med-Surg orientation is approximately 12 weeks. Johnson 6 is a 37 bed medical unit. The unit has multiple private rooms to accommodate the needs of the variety of patient populations that are served there. Johnson 6 also has three four bed rooms which overflow beds are available in case of elevated census. There is one negative pressure room to accommodate needs of patients requiring this level of need. The entire unit has had an assessment to accommodate the behavioral health patients we care for that may happen to be on suicide precautions. These patients tent to be placed in the private rooms at the Nurse’s Station for the highest levels of monitoring. Patient Population Johnson 6 accepts patients of 16 years of age or older with chronic medical conditions. Patients cared for on this unit generally range in age 20 to 90 years of age, there is such a range of ages on Johnson 6 due to the variety of medical conditions that are treated can impact any age group. Patients are admitted from many services including internal medicine, medical oncology, hospice, infectious disease, behavioral health, thoracic surgery and renal. Common Medical Diagnoses • Pancreatitis • Cerebral vascular accident • Dementia • Delirium • Failure to thrive • Cancer • Substance abuse issues Common Nursing Diagnoses • Nutritional deficit • Safety (Fall risk) • Alteration in skin integrity • Alteration in body image • Cellulitis • Pain management • Powerlessness On Johnson 6, one of the key roles in successful patient care is that of the unit based Pharmacist on the day shift M-F. The patients on Johnson 6 require complex pharmaceutical interventions, and having this expertise available on the unit to support the patient care needs as well as a resource of Provider order management has allowed the RN staff to collaborate for highest quality outcomes. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nurse license
  • BCLS required

Responsibilities
