Utilizes the nursing process to provide care to patients of all age groups (infancy through geriatrics), and with all types & degrees of severity of illness or injury. Practices in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and hospital & department policies, procedures & standards. Participates in performance improvement efforts. Maintains a clean, well organized department in a constant state of readiness with adequate supplies, equipment checks & housekeeping tasks. Maintains competence through required in-services & other continuing education. Requires on call, weekend & holiday rotation and the flexibility to work all shifts when needed.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Must have current hospital experience (within 5 years), or be a new nursing graduate (within 2 years).
  • Must be able to think clearly during emergencies & be able to function well in extremely stressful situations.
  • State of Illinois RN license.
  • CPR certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience in hospital clinical nursing.
  • ECRN certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administers IV’s, medications and treatments.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions & acts accordingly.
  • Maintains the department in a constant state of readiness.
  • Communicates effectively with peers, health team members, patients, visitors & others.
  • Communicates patient information as required for continuum of care.
  • Transcribes physician orders.
  • Usage of the computer system.
  • Implements charges.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates good radio technique.
  • Familiarity with SOP’s.
  • Issues appropriate orders.
  • Records report on the written log.
  • Provides a positive clinical experience for EMT’s.
  • Collects forensic specimens.
