About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care for individual clients and families. The Registered Nurse communicates with and on behalf of the client and coordinates client care with all health team members. The Registered Nurse organizes those aspects of nursing care for which s/he is accountable in a specified work period. This role involves demonstrating the mission of the hospital by embodying Core Values such as Respectful, Engaged, Available, Competent, and Helpful. The nurse will communicate congenially and professionally, practice proper safety techniques, accurately document care plans and interventions, participate in the medical plan of care, demonstrate clinical knowledge and independent judgment, follow infection control procedures, and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Dakota
  • Certification ~ BLS- required
  • ACLS- Required in the first 6 months of hire
  • PALS or ENPC- Required in the first 6 months of hire
  • TNCC- Required in the first 6 months of hire
  • Following a formal orientation, proficiency in the assigned clinical area is expected within six months.
  • Cross training is required.
  • Utilizes computer system and software.
  • Completes competencies on department equipment.
  • Basic Reading, Writing, and Math skills
  • Complex Tasks to include patient education delivery skills
  • Basic Computer and clerical skills
  • Proficiency in critical thinking
  • Task oriented with the ability to follow Instructions

  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan, reassesses and reviews as needed.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge, analytic abilities, and independent judgement necessary to provide patient care.
  • Follows infection control procedures and universal precautions according to established policy and procedures.
  • Promotes and maintains confidentiality of information regarding patients, families, healthcare personnel and the facility.
  • Addresses psychosocial and spiritual aspects of care and documents communication interventions.
  • Assumes personal responsibility to complete all required competencies, certifications, annual HealthStream education and SQSS tasks within the assigned timeframes.
  • Participates in hospital’s quality, risk, and utilization plan by attending meetings and other activities.
  • Demonstrates open communication and teamwork within each unit, between units, and house wide.
  • Utilizes problem-solving methods to resolve differences with others in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Cross training is required.
