About The Position

PersonalCare Registered Professional Nursing P.C. is seeking enthusiastic and hard-working Registered Nurses (RN) for a Full-Time position in the Medical Department at the Columbia County Jail in Hudson, NY. The RN will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating nursing care in accordance with the company's philosophy, goals, and objectives. This role involves direct reporting to the Medical Director or another mid-level practitioner. The available shifts are Full-Time Day (7am-3:30pm) and Part-Time Evening (3pm-11:30pm). The position includes a 2-week on-the-job orientation and shadowing period.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Good grasp of patient assessment skills.
  • Clinical decision-making ability is required and critical.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and demonstrate clinical competency.
  • Ability to gain the trust of patients and build a working relationship.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous education and experience may be substituted in many cases.
  • Experience in health care delivery system is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring nursing practice complies with established nursing standards.
  • Assessing and providing comprehensive treatment care while observing and maintaining security requirements.
  • Monitoring treatment services to prevent inappropriate use and/or duplication of services.
  • Advising Health Services Administrator and Nurse Supervisor of any issues related to treatment services.
  • Monitoring and recommending methods to improve operational efficiency and cost containment.
  • Assisting Health Services Administrator or Nurse Supervisor in coordinating and/or conducting monthly health care staff meetings.
  • Providing other services and performing other duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor, Health Services Administrator, head nurse, or corporate staff.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all controlled substances, narcotics, and sharps in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Providing health counseling to patients.
  • Conducting sick call for inmate/patients and providing provisional diagnosis and treatment for selected minor illnesses and injuries defined by written protocol and approved by the Director.
  • Observing, reporting, and documenting symptoms, reactions, and progress of inmate/patients.
  • Participating in the formulation of the plan of nursing care.
  • Implementing treatment care plans that promote, maintain, and restore the well-being of inmate/patients.
  • At the beginning of each shift, taking vital signs, performing a complete assessment, and documenting findings on the dispensary care of all inmates/patients housed in the medical unit and/or mental health unit.
