About The Position

The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team at UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper. The nurse establishes a personalized relationship with patients and their chosen support systems, and collaborates with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care that promote optimal health. The role uses scientific evidence and compassion to help patients navigate their health journeys, and accepts responsibility and accountability for managing and providing care in accordance with current policies and procedures. Patient care is provided and documented under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager. The nurse provides care for patients presenting to the department, prioritizes work according to patient needs and changing acuity, administers medications, and performs routine and critical-care nursing interventions. Duties may include starting IVs, dressing changes, CPR, medication therapy, patient transfers, and transportation to other departments. The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. The role may involve on-call responsibilities, travel between campus buildings and remote facilities or out of town, and use of safety equipment such as a HEPA mask.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Current RN licensure in the applicable state.
CPI certification within three months of hire for Emergency Department positions.
Ability to perform basic nursing skills on groups of patients and assume charge responsibility.
Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly.
Ability to administer medication using the five rights.
Verbal and written communication skills.
Basic computer knowledge.
Ability to safely and effectively care for all patient populations presenting to the department.
If an RN license has been inactive, retired, or lapsed for five years or more, and the candidate has not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board-approved refresher course is required before license reactivation or reinstatement; application for reinstatement must be made within one year of completing the course.

Four-year bachelor's degree preferred.

Responsibilities

Establish personalized relationships with patients and their chosen support systems.
Collaborate with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
Use scientific evidence and compassion to support patients through their health journeys.
Manage and provide care in accordance with current policies and procedures, and document patient care under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager.
Advocate for patients when implementing interdisciplinary plans of care and educate patients and their support systems in collaboration with the healthcare team.
Analyze, modify, and implement strategies to progress patients through their plans of care.
Ensure completion of nursing interventions, medical orders, and related therapies.
Prioritize duties according to patient needs and changing acuity levels.
Maintain positive relationships with team members and internal customers, mentor and orient team members, provide feedback, and resolve conflicts as appropriate.
Provide nursing care such as starting IVs and performing dressing changes for multiple patients in a timely manner.
Assist in critical situations, including administering CPR.
Administer and evaluate medication therapies.
Perform patient transfers and transport patients by wheelchair, hospital bed, or stretcher to other departments.
Perform additional duties as assigned; fulfill on-call responsibilities and travel as needed.
