The Registered Nurse (RN) uses the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, outcomes and planning, implementation, and evaluation—to provide individualized nursing care to patients. In the operating room, the RN collaborates with interprofessional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse practices within the full scope of nursing expertise and applies age- and population-specific standards relevant to the clinical setting. The role includes caring for patients throughout preventative care, health maintenance, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up; planning and coordinating care; patient assessment and education; triage; and other nursing interventions. Practice must comply with the Nurse Practice Act and applicable administrative rules in the state of practice and licensure, as well as Sanford’s professional nursing practice standards. The OR team works in a fast-paced environment, and candidates need at least six months of OR experience.
