The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement individualized interventions, and evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan. This role involves the patient and family in care planning and implementation, developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships throughout the healthcare continuum. The RN anticipates and recognizes significant changes in patient condition, status, and care needs, providing ongoing assessment and taking appropriate action. They also mobilize resources, collaborate with healthcare team members for coordinated, patient-centered care, and implement strategies to reduce patient risk and enhance safety. The position requires assessing and individualizing patient and family learning needs, coordinating discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach, and applying evidence-based practice. The RN consistently incorporates nursing and regulatory standards of care, evaluates patient, team, and unit outcomes, and is empowered to act on necessary changes. They support shared governance, demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills, and promote collaboration among healthcare team members. The RN assumes a leadership role in the care team, delegates appropriately to unlicensed personnel, and promotes a culture of safety by identifying and intervening in potential patient harm. They report patient safety events and near misses promptly, assist in implementing corrective actions, and apply ethical decision-making with respect for peers and other clinical disciplines. Participation in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development is expected, including seeking opportunities for teaching, coaching, and mentoring. The RN must attend required meetings and educational programs and complete annual competencies in a timely manner. They must demonstrate knowledge and skills for age-appropriate patient care, understanding growth and development principles and assessing data reflective of patient status to meet age-specific needs.
